Jazz and Contemporary Dance

Jazz dance is a fun up-beat genre that encourages a firm classical ballet foundation so that bodies can develop with strength and agility. Jazz dancers work to develop technique, speed, flexibility, breath control, and spatial awareness, all while displaying a variety of emotions. Jazz dance tends to be fast with controlled deliberate movements.

Contemporary dance is a combination of elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers work to develop physical, spatial, mental, and emotional awareness, as well as weight sharing skills. Contemporary dance is often done barefoot and can be performed to many different styles of music.

Italia Performing Arts offers a class combining jazz and contemporary dance, in Winchester on Mondays and in Edinburg on Fridays.
