Help Keep Ballet Alive in the Shenandoah Valley

Italia Performing Arts is the premier dance school in the Shenandoah Valley and has been teaching children and adults since they opened their doors in 2012. Its founders, Lorenza Manara Marchi and Peter Kirk, left their home in Europe to open their school and bring the beauty of classical ballet and dance to under-served rural areas in the Shenandoah Valley and beyond. To date, they have opened studios in Winchester, Edinburg and Hillsboro, Virginia.

In addition to classical ballet, Italia Performing Arts also teaches Tap, Jazz & Hip-Hop, Lyrical & Contemporary, Turns & Leaps, Musical Theatre, and Musical Theatre Vocals. They also have programs for children with special needs.

According to The Child Development Institute, studying dance provides many benefits to children. They learn to follow instructions, gain a sense of discipline, coordination and balance, remain active through body movement, and become comfortable performing before groups. In addition, dance promotes proper nutrition, muscle development, and self-confidence and pride.
