Tap dance is best known for the sound it makes; the rhythmic tapping sound is accomplished by the dancer, from the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes. Tap dance is often characterized by rhythm and improvisation of the dancers. Tap dancing can also be performed with or without music and with a wide array of emotions. Dancers develop precision, speed, breath control, and rhythm while studying Tap. Dancers in this class will also learn how to match the beats of the music and each other.
For 2017-18 we are offering beginners’ tap classes for children age 3 to 6 in Winchester and in Edinburg, and a class in Winchester for age 10 to 15 which is linked to our Musical Theatre class.
